Erie MetroParks' Off Leash Dog Park
at Osborn Park A cooperative fundraising project between Erie County dog owners and Erie
MetroParks.
Area residents have requested
that a section in the MetroParks be designated as an off leash dog park
area.
This type of facility has become very popular with dog owners all over the
country.
The proposed 2.5 acres for
the dog park is located east of the Maple Grove Center at Osborn Park in
Huron Township, with accessibility from Hull Road. Parking, ranger
patrols and maintenance needs are nearby. The area is already a
favorite for many dog owners that walk the park year round.
Benches, water fountains,
waste stations, shade trees and a covered shelter will be included.
A separate area for small, older or less active dogs will also be
available.
Access will be through a
secure, double-gated entry with a coded lock. A bulletin board at
the entrance will post announcements, rules and other information.
Dogs need to run and
socialize with other dogs to be healthy, both mentally and physically.
With over 13,600 dogs in Erie County, a base of prospective users and
volunteers is plentiful.

I of the Dog Park, click here.
A "leash-cutting" ceremony
was held on December 12 where the dogs dig the groundbreaking (with a
little incentive from buried treats).
EMP staff are cutting lumber
for fence posts.
Phase I construction startup
is scheduled for fall 2008.
Your donation can help
make the Dog Park a reality! Those wishing to give a gifts of $50
or more in memory or honor of a dog can have the dog's photo displayed
on the bulletin board at the park entrance.
Tax deductible gifts may be
